Rand McNally’s revised RouteTools Professional Driver Edition software includes more than 200,000 data updates for Quickest Routes to the North American Highway Network, information on more than 5,000 truck stop locations and available amenities, as well as updated truck attributes for 48-foot and 53-foot tractor-trailer configurations. References to the 2004 Motor Carriers’ Road Atlas have been updated, as well. The licensing fee has been eliminated with the updated RouteTools software.

REDESIGNED FLATBED BEAM
Ravens has redesigned the main beam section of its Magnum and Eclipse II Classic flatbed trailers. The new main beam has a single-piece web the length of the trailer, up to 53 feet long, rather than three pieces of aluminum welded together. The Magnum is Ravens’ heaviest duty trailer, designed to haul concentrated loads, though it weighs much less than comparable steel trailers. The Eclipse II Classic is Ravens’ lightest weight flatbed, used primarily by owner-operators and weight-sensitive fleets.

REDESIGNED VOCATIONAL ENGINES
Cummins has introduced ISC and ISL engines, featuring a new high-pressure common rail injection system, to vocational markets. The system increases performance, lowers emissions and reduces noise 30 percent. The new fuel system provides a tiny “pilot” injection of fuel during compression to precede the main injection and combustion event, which spreads out combustion and also improves cold starting. The common-rail design maintains high injection pressures regardless of engine rpm, which improves performance across the entire power range.
