For the first time in 17 months, the national average retail price of a gallon of diesel topped $3 this week. The price jumped 7.6 cents to $3.015, according to the Department of Energy.
The last time the national diesel price exceeded $3 was the first week in November 2008.
All regions reported sharply higher prices, ranging from 2.5 cents in New England to 8.6 cents on the West Coast. All regions were above $3 a gallon, except the Lower Atlantic, Midwest and Gulf Coast, which was the cheapest at $2.978.
