Letters to the editor

Fight for privacy can be won
I am writing about the latest federal police-state intrusion, the Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

I’m sure most truckers have read or heard the government propaganda on how it is going to prevent terrorism – yada yada yada.

Most of us know better and realize it’s just another tool for Uncle Sam to keep information on us, and it’s hard to tell in the future what more info will be put on that little gold microchip, including RFID tracking devices. Also, consider the expense and the chance of ID theft within our own federal government (remember the VA mess, FBI computers stolen). I am very concerned about this latest government “mark of the beast.” If you are interested in fighting this, there is an organization in the forefront taking on this David v. Goliath scrap.

Get on your computer and log on to www.downsizedc.org. You will see where to punch up TWIC. You will read about my Internet radio interview and how easy it is to fight this. There is a draft letter that you can e-mail to your senators and congresspeople.

Other GPS Systems Out There, Too
John Baxter wrote a good article regarding GPS and trucking, but he missed one new product (available since March 2008). It is designed especially for truckers and includes truck routing as well as hazmat routing. He should check it out.

I picked up a copy of your magazine especially to read that article as I have been researching a GPS system. I had expected at least one of these products to be reviewed. You can check it out at www.teletype.com.
