The natural gas-powered Freightliner Casacadia will soon be available with a 48-inch sleeper option, Freightliner announced July 31. The truck will also have the option of either compressed natural gas or liquified natural gas fuel tanks.
Freightliner continued its partnership with Cummins-Westport in the deal, as its ISX12 G natural gas engine will be under the hood in the Cascadia sleeper option. It will be available with ratings up to 400-hp and with the option for a 190 diesel gallon equivalent CNG tank or a 140 diesel gallon equivalent (300 gallons) LNG tank. The fill-range of each configuration will be about 800 miles, Freightliner says.
Production of the truck will begin in the first quarter of next year.
Freightliner this week also announced LED headlamps are now standard equipment on all new Cascadia and Cascadia Evolution tractors and that it has already sold more than 15,000 trucks in the year β a number it says has given it a 39 percent share of the Class 8 market.
