The organization that partners truck drivers with grade-school classrooms to help teach children about the trucking industry and more started the grant program in 2014. Schools are evaluated based on funding needs, as well as how the funds will be used.

The student driver had been driving well, but began complaining about not feeling well. He later passed out at the wheel, and Demetrice Reeves was able to slow the truck down and pull the student out of the driver’s seat to take over and get the truck stopped safely.

The newly-rebranded truck stop in Steele, formerly the Coffee Cup Fuel Stop, offers 75 truck parking spaces, seven diesel fueling lanes, laundry facilities, three showers and more. It also offers Caribou Coffee, Pizza Hut Express and Subway restaurants.

An Indiana coroner is refuting social media rumors surrounding the death of a truck driver who was found hanged in his cab in March. A California-based trucker was shot and killed along I-20 in Texas. And two truckers were busted after drugs were found in their trucks.

Electronic log provider KeepTruckin, who’s prominent in the owner-operator market, announced April 23 it has received $149 million in Series D investment funding, with the company valued at $1 billion. The company says it will use the latest influx to fund new hires, invest in hardware, form new partnerships and to further its work in machine learning.

Cargo theft trends shift as thieves alter approach
CargoNet reports that in the first quarter of 2019, there was a total of 140 cargo thefts, a 22 percent decrease from 2018’s first quarter. The firm also notes that the average cargo value per theft during the quarter was $145,772 for a total estimated cost of $12.8 million.

Volvo recalls 11,000 trucks over sleeper bunk window issue
Volvo’s recall affects approximately 11,089 model year 2018-2020 VNL and VNX trucks configured as 740 and 760 sleeper models. Mack is also recalling approximately 43 model year 2020 Anthem and Pinnacle trucks in which the conspicuity reflectors on the back of the cab may be blocked by the exhaust system.

Ramps with the weight restrictions include I-45 Northbound to I-20 Westbound, I-45 Northbound to I-20 Eastbound and I-20 Westbound to I-45 Southbound. The restrictions are expected to be in place for two weeks.
