Fleets to begin testing all-electric Volvo VNR tractor in 2019
Volvo Trucks North America announced Tuesday that it will deploy 23 all-electric Class 8 tractors next year in California. Southeastern winter storm claims three truckers’ lives
An Alabama-based trucker was hit by an out-of-control SUV when walking on the shoulder of I-81 in Tennessee after his truck broke down. Another driver is still missing after his truck was found in the Neuse River in North Carolina, while a third driver reportedly had a heart attack while trying to shovel free his stuck truck.

The for-hire trucking industry added 4,500 jobs in the month of November, according to preliminary figures from the U.S. Labor Department. But the agency downwardly revised October’s employment stats to show a 200-job loss in the October — erasing gains reported by preliminary figures for the month.

Transport America recently selected 20-year trucker and Army veteran Russ Cox as the driver of its first Armed Forces Fleet truck. Cox said he was proud to be selected to drive the truck, which has a custom, Army-themed truck wrap. Cox served for 11 years and was a tank crew member on an M1A1 tank.

For the third time in recent months, a large spool of some sort has broken free from the truck that was carrying it and rolled down a Houston area interstate. The latest incident occurred Friday, Dec. 7 on Interstate 610. Similar spools made getaway attempts in October and November.

Avoid getting stiffed: New flag on brokers with bonds pending cancellation can be effective recon tool
If a surety provider’s notice of cancellation of a broker’s bond can’t result in an immediate suspension because of “the need for rulemaking,” as FMCSA has noted, “that is a catch-22,” one watcher says, a “stretch of highway 100 miles long” with no stop signs against a fradulent broker doing business with no intent to pay. There’s a stop sign available now.
