Dolphy Dickerson, July 6, 1950-December 6, 2013
Overdrive Facebook fan Mark Blake alerted us to the passing of a longtime “brother trucker” in West Virginia. Funeral services for Dolphy Woodrow Dickerson, retired owner-operator of the D&D Trucking fleet, were conducted this past Monday at at Reger Funeral Chapel by Minister Bernie Riggs and Pastor Willis Mills. Burial follows in the Maple Hill Section of Docks Creek Cemetery in Kenova, W.Va. A message board to offer condolences and memories is available at Reger’s website

Dickerson was 63, and in February of 2010 survived a heart transplant at the University of Kentucky. He spoke about the procedure, as well as his belief in the value of organ donation, in this video.

In the words of Blake, “the trucking industry has lost a great man” as he lost the battle with cancer. The driver and likewise owner of Hobby Horse Farms is now “making the great run to the promised land.”

Our condolences to the family.

Rodriguez says his group participates annually in the event — any drivers in the area with interest in being involved next time around can feel free to give him a call via 956-739-6513. Alternately, join up with the crew via the South Texas Truckers for Kids Facebook group
