Kentucky trucker shut down after causing accident, leading police on chase
Dalton McCoy Lampley was driving eastbound on I-24 in Kentucky on March 17 when he crossed the median into the westbound lanes. After striking two cars, Lampley continued driving with police in pursuit, leaving the interstate and driving into Calvert City, Ky., according to FMCSA.

FMCSA to hear suggestions for improving post-crash reporting
During the meeting, the committee will offer suggestions to FMCSA on how to implement certain post-accident reporting changes, which include seeking standard definitions related to crash reporting, classification of Minimum Model Uniform Crash Criteria (MMUCC) and which data should be prioritized for inclusion on police accident reports and more.

FMCSA grants 30-minute break exemption to certain concrete pump drivers
The exemption requests stated pump operators take breaks throughout the day, so the extra 30-minute break is unnecessary. Additionally, ACPA said in the request that concrete pump drivers only drive approximately 25 to 32 percent of their shift, and average less than 20 to 25 miles each day.

Georgia trucker shut down following DUI conviction
Christopher Speyrer was declared an imminent hazard to public safety after he was responsible for a Nov. 20 multi-vehicle chain reaction crash on I-64 in Virginia in which he ran into the back of a car stopped in traffic. A Virginia court found him guilty of DUI.

FMCSA puts final nail in the coffin for restart regs
FMCSA confirmed the 2013 regulations on the 34-hour restart will not go back into effect. Not only did the drivers operating under the more restrictive regulations show no greater levels of safety, in some cases they were less safe, according to FMCSA’s summary of research performed on the regs.

Alert to DOT: Industry shows unity against safety-rating change in light of CSA’s problems
A recent letter, urging DOT to scrap the Safety Fitness Determination rulemaking as premature, brings in a large variety of state and private industry associations as signatories, including ATA, OOIDA, NASTC and WSTA. The broad nature of the coalition should “indicate how seriously everyone views this issue.”
