The onetime country music hit, “I’ve Been Everywhere, Man,” recorded in the U.S. by Hank Snow in 1962, (by Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson too, among others), but it surely tells a truth about truckers: You’ve seen more sights, heard more strange and wondrous sounds and traveled more miles than most people on Earth.
For the 50th anniversary issue, Overdrive wants to hear about your most poignant or memorable moments in trucking. Stories already on OverdriveRetro will be included in the September issue, which is being devoted to the magazine’s Golden Anniversary. All those sent in are being archived on the online site devoted to the magazine’s history. The highlighted “Years Ago” and “Readers Remember” stories there range from what it was like driving on two-lane roads in the late 1950s to childhood memories of putting pillows on the driver’s seat to reach the steering wheel of his dad’s heavy-duty tractor.
Email me at [email protected] and let me know about a few moments, special hauls or people you’d like to forget (or remember forever) who share the halls of your memories.
Also a part of the September issue will be results of a poll of your favorite trucking songs. Vote from a list of the top 10 readers’ choices on the poll here on Senior Editor Todd Dills’ Channel 19 blog for July 7, 2011.
