Missouri truck owners may apply for grants

Updated Jan 18, 2011

Grant money to replace or retrofit diesel-powered trucks is available to Missouri owners. The deadline for applications is Feb. 1.

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has sent grant money to four organizations in the state that will distribute money to program participants.

Truck owners may apply for one of two programs. The first covers emissions control retrofits, idle-reduction technology, low-rolling-resistance tires, aerodynamic technology, engine repowers and alternative fuels. The retrofits or technology must be approved by the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection or the California Air Resources Board. Reimbursements will cover 75 percent of the cost.

The second program covers retirement of diesel vehicles or equipment and will pay up to 25 percent of the cost of a new vehicle that meets 2010 emissions standards. The grant is only for early retirement of diesel vehicles or equipment.

Both programs cover reimbursements, and all costs must be incurred between February and July.

A drawing will be held among eligible applications to each organization that received funding. St. Louis area owners can go to www.stlcleancities.org/ for more information. Kansas City area owners can visit www.marc.org/rfp.htm. Owners in southwest Missouri may go to www.drury.edu/multinl/story.cfm?ID=25768&NLID=387, while those in the southeast area may visit www.semorpc.org/dera.html for more information.
