Throngs celebrate at Walcott Jamboree

Nearly 30,000 drivers and their families from 23 states and Canada joined festivities at last week’s Walcott Truckers Jamboree at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop.
For this year’s 32nd jamboree, visitors were entertained with more than 175 exhibits, a Super Truck Beauty Contest with 59 contestants, an antique truck display of more than 200 vehicles, an Iowa pork chop cookout, Trucker Olympics, carnival games, a concert by Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives and fireworks.
The Iowa 80 Trucking Museum celebrated a centennial for its 1911 Walker Electric Truck. Guests sang along to a version of “Happy Birthday” by the truck’s favorite singer/songwriter Leland Martin.
Next year’s jamboree will be Thursday and Friday, July 12 and 13, 2012.
