West Des Moines, Iowa-based Core Carriers driver Rodney Shackelford won Truckers News’ September photo contest, part of a monthly series hosted via the magazine’s online Flickr.com group (https://flickr.com/groups/truckersnews).
Shackelford’s winning shot, taken with his Nikon D500 SLR at a truckstop in Avoca, Iowa, off I-80 at U.S. 59, captured the theme of the monthly contest, which asked for “Truckstop Scenes.”
Shackelford calls the photo “Guardian Angel” on account of the ghostly light just ahead of the tank truck in the foreground. “My wife Kim tells me that she has a guardian angel look after me while I’m out on the road,” Shackelford says. While his logical side tells him “this is only a flare from the streetlight,” his spiritual side is feeling otherwise.
Shackelford’s photo will be published in the November issue of Truckers News and, in addition, he wins a copy of Bryan Peterson’s “Understanding Photography Field Guide: How to Shoot Great Photographs With Any Camera.”
Driver-photographers can join the Truckers News Flickr.com group at https://flickr.com/groups/truckersnews for rules on this month’s contest, which asks for “Trucking portraits.” There are no entry fees to join the group or enter the contest.
The winning photo will be published in the December edition of the magazine, and winning photographer will take home a copy of a guide to post-shoot digital work in “Camera RAW 101: Better Photos with Photoshop, Elements, and Lightroom,” by Jon Canfield, a consultant for Canon, HP and other companies.
