Tolls could drop on NYC bridge

Updated Feb 12, 2014

Truckers may soon qualify for a 20 percent toll discount on a New York City bridge if they make more than 10 crossings that month using E-Z Pass.

On Feb. 6, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced reaching agreement with legislative leaders to fund toll relief for qualified drivers using the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, linking Brooklyn and Staten Island. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is scheduled to review the Democrat’s proposal at its Feb. 26 meeting. The plan also must undergo environmental review and the E-ZPass system must be reprogrammed.

If the process is successful, five-axle truck drivers will pay  $42.13 instead of $52.52 to cross the bridge beginning April 1.
