Nearly half of independents using ELDs give no thanks for device providers
Almost half of independent owner-operator respondents who’ve put on an e-log reported a “no-satisfaction” level with their ELD provider — add those who were only “somewhat or a little satisfied,” and you can account for more than 6 in 10 responding independents using an ELD today.

Reefer rates continue ticking up ahead of holiday
Demand for reefer and van capacity is building with the calendar year drawing to a close. In marked contrast to the previous week, the number of available loads jumped 6.7 percent overall, while the number of trucks fell 2.2 percent last week — rates could be expected to move up accordingly with such a demand boost.

TxDOT moves on truck-parking survey, workshop series throughout the state
Texas Department of Transportation reps have moved on efforts to assess a way forward on potentially taking steps to improve parking infrastructure for truckers hauling to, through and from the state. TxDOT wants input now from carriers and drivers on parking issues in the state.

Expect increased police activity on I-40 during Thanksgiving
Troopers in California, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and North Carolina are participating in the effort that aims to achieve zero fatalities along the 2,559 miles of interstate during Thanksgiving. Drivers should expect to see a trooper at least every 20 miles from Wednesday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 25.

Diesel prices continued to fall during the week ending Nov. 19, dropping 3.5 cents to bring the U.S.’ national average to $3.282 per gallon, according to the Department of Energy’s weekly report.

Trucker arrested for allegedly trafficking fentanyl
Nelson A. Garcia Martinez, of Stockton, California, was arrested in Sturbridge, Massachusetts, after the potent synthetic opioid was found in his truck, according to a report from the Worcester, Massachusetts-based Telegram.com.

Mack, Volvo recall more than 3,000 trucks for lighting, steering issues
Most trucks included in the recalls are vocational. The largest of the three recalls affects approximately 2,194 model year 2004-2019 VHD vocational trucks equipped with snow plow lamp preparation kits. Mack issued the same recall on approximately 946 model year 2019 Granite trucks.

Peter Rosenberger with his wife today leads a ministry to the families of amputees, following the amputation of his wife’s legs. He places the truckers who helped that day so many years ago in the context of his wife’s long ministry to others, noting “ministry often means rushing to the scene of a wreck. … All that we need to function in those moments are vivid mental pictures of two scarred hands reaching into our trauma.”
