Arizona DOT to add weigh station bypass sensors at seven port of entry locations
Truckers will be required to use the Drivewyze mobile app or ELD app to get a bypass. ADOT says some trucks will be selected at random for inspections, and registered trucks that are overweight or have paperwork issues will be instructed to stop for inspection.

Van, reefer rates soared in July
Per-mile spot market rates in van and reefer segments continued their recent hot streak in July, with both segments climbing to their highest point in two years, according to monthly rate data from Truckstop.com. Flatbed rates dipped a few cents in the month, but the segmentās per-mile rate average remains at one of its strongest points since mid-2015, too.

Senate DOT bill, unlike House, skips changes to ELD mandate, driver breaks
The Senateās 2018 fiscal year DOT appropriations does not include any changes to the coming electronic logging device mandate, nor does it include the so-called Denham Amendment, which intends to block states from enacting rest break laws for truck drivers. The House version of the bill does include such reforms.

FMCSA: Pre-2000 ELD exemption applies to engine model year, not chassis
Owner-operators with trucks equipped with model year 1999 engines and older will not be not subject to the electronic logging device mandate, regardless of the model year of the truck, according to fresh guidance from FMCSA.

Cargo theft, tractor-trailer theft down in second quarter
The firm reports 110 tractors and 109 trailers were stolen during the quarter in the U.S. and Canada. When compared to 2016ās second quarter, tractor theft was down 17 percent and trailer theft was down 29 percent.

Lawsuit seeks to halt FMCSA's non-domiciled CDL final rule
That latest filing in the case of owner-operator Jorge Rivera Lujan v. the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration asks for an emergency stay of the government's final rule restricting non-domiciled CDL eligibility, pending judicial review.
