Seven Connecticut rest areas with more than 200 truck parking spots on chopping block
Connecticut DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick said his department conducted a study several years ago that revealed a truck parking deficit of 1,200 spaces each night. The seven rest areas under threat of closure offer truckers a total of 222 parking spaces that could be lost.

A section of I-15 South in Las Vegas will be closed overnight Wednesday for construction work. The Sacaton, Ariz., rest area will close for approximately 6 months in both directions for renovations, and a truck rest area on I-95 South in Rhode Island will close for approximately a year.

Legislation introduced to allow commercial services at public rest areas
Congressman Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and Rep. Joe Courtney (D-Conn.) introduced a bill Thursday that would allow interstate rest areas to add commercial services such as convenience stores and restaurants.

Connecticut guv calls for closure of seven rest areas
Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy in his biennial budget proposal cuts funding for the state’s seven traditional rest areas to save the state $1.1 million over a two-year period. The proposal, if passed by the state’s legislature, calls for the closure of the seven locations by July 1, 2017.
