Two jet funny cars provided intermission entertainment for the crowd between qualifying rounds of the truck drags. Both funny cars ran the quarter-mile track in less than six seconds and topped speeds of 270 mph.
The three Best of Show winners from the Charlotte Diesel Super Show will be invited to compete in the national judging round for the 2012 Custom Rigs Pride & Polish National Championship series in August 2012 at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas.
Scott Diller’s 1981 Kenworth W900A won Best of Show in the Limited Mileage Bobtail category. The Bethel, Pa., native’s truck is the showpiece of Lanita Transport, a company named after his parents, Larry and Juanita.
Brent and Diane Greer of Refrew, Ontario, took home Best of Show honors in the Working Bobtail category with their 1996 Peterbilt 379.
Brooklyn, Conn., resident Mike Bunning’s 2008 Peterbilt 389 and 2010 Mac dump were named Best of Show Working Combo.
