I-10 Westbound closures set for Phoenix this weekend
The Arizona Department of Transportation will close I-10 Westbound in Phoenix between State Route 347 and Loop 202 this weekend so crews can remove and replace overhead signs for the interchange with the new Loop 202 Freeway. The interstate will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

New video system from Trimble geared toward small fleets
ELD provider Trimble, formerly PeopleNet, has added high-def video recorders to its Video Intelligence product. The new recorders are aimed at the small fleet market, Trimble says. The two-camera set-up can record up to 72 hours of video and has two SD card slots for expandable storage.

Truck-involved fatalities increased in 2018, estimates show
NHTSA’s preliminary data estimates that 36,750 people were killed in traffic crashes in 2018. The agency estimates truck-involved fatalities increased by 3%, while pedestrian and pedalcyclist fatalities increased by 4% and 10%, respectively.

A preemptive strike toward honing a driver’s skillset as some of their job functions are automated, the Autonomous Vehicle Driver and Operations Specialist certificate program was designed to prepare individuals for trucking’s future, with jobs like training the autonomous system as test drivers, operating the vehicle in situations where autonomous driving is not suitable and to remotely monitor the system from a command center.
