Ohio looking to close I-77 rest area, seeks public comment
ODOT said in a press release there are “adequate facilities to accommodate the needs to the traveling public on the I-77 corridor,” warranting the permanent closure of the rest area in Washington County at the 3.6 milemarker. The rest area proposed to be closed offers 20 truck parking spaces.

OOIDA asks House committee to hold hearing on ELD mandate
Continuing in its so-far-unfruitful appeal to lawmakers, courts and regulators to reevaluate the federal electronic logging device mandate, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association has asked the leaders of the House’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to hold a hearing on its concerns surrounding ELD implementation.

OOIDA wants court to rehear case over sleep apnea guidelines for truckers
Following a court’s dismissal of the case in January, OOIDA has filed a motion for the U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals to rehear its argument that FMCSA illegally altered sleep apnea screening guidelines for truck drivers. FMCSA refutes OOIDA’s assertions, and the court sided with FMCSA in January.

Martinez takes the helm at FMCSA
Raymond P. Martinez, the new administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, has officially assumed the role as boss of the U.S. DOT’s trucking and bus regulatory agency, FMCSA announced late Wednesday. Martinez was selected last fall by President Trump to head FMCSA. He was confirmed by the Senate in February.

Supreme Court to hear trucker’s case challenging carrier arbitration clause
The United States Supreme Court announced Monday it has agreed to hear a lawsuit brought by an owner-operator against New Prime Inc., a subsidiary of Prime Inc., that challenges the carrier’s requirement that disputes between the carrier and its drivers be handled outside of court via third-party arbitration.
