As promised two years ago, Tammy Groom followed through on installing the “Paid for, she is” license plate on the Grooms’ 2012 KW T660.You may well recall team owner-ops Michael and Tammy Groom’s Star Wars-themed “Mothership” 2012 Kenworth T660 was five weeks from being paid off through a lease-purchase program the last time I checked in with them on the blog on the occasion of the 2016 Guilty by Association Truck Show in Joplin. Since then, the Grooms have moved away from their lease with Swift Transportation and into the two-truck small fleet operation of a longtime friend in MTG Xpress, hauling a dedicated route for Video Equipment Rentals between Vegas, Nashville, Tenn., and Orlando, Fla.
The rig, too, has gotten a bit of a makeover as well, particularly in its front-facing part with a Valley Chrome louvered grille and wrap-around stainless bumper with a “Use the Force” legend that lights up green, Yoda-style, at night.
New graphics around the rig, too, have added further elements of whimsicality to what is nothing if not a unique treatment to a home away from home on the road for the Grooms.
