Irish truckers report on South Korean truckers’ strike

An estimated 80 percent of the 380,000 total South Korean truckers were reported to have gone on strike “demanding the introduction of standard freight charges, a 30 percent rise in transportation fees and revised laws on labour rights,” reported the (you’re hearing right) Irish Trucker Magazine. News travels faster than on-highway rigs, eh?

Platts reports the truckers are striking over high fuel prices, demanding further government subsidies. According to the Korea Herald, the stoppage comes on the heels of a nationwide shutdown by taxi drivers last Wednesday over similar issues.
