Last week on the spot market, the load-to-truck ratio for outbound loads in the Los Angeles area shot up to about 7 load postings on DATās load board per one truck posting. The average is about two loads to one truck. The recent imbalance in loads to trucks puts upward pressure on rates.

Reefer rates climbed in August, flatbed and van rates fell
Per-mile rates on the spot market mostly continued to tumble in August, according to monthly rate data from Truckstop.com. Reefer rates were the lone bright spot in the monthās rates report, climbing 4 cents a mile. Dry van and flatbed rates both posted declines.

Spot market update: Local demand indicators for three major segments in the last week
A somewhat lackluster week on the spot market saw van and reefer volume increase slightly, but rates were more or less unchanged as a national average. Flatbed volume and rates considered broadly continued to drift down, but Savannah-Charlotte was a hot round trip.

Midwest writ large is trending up, the Southeast down, with the exception of lanes into Louisiana. Increases were dramatic on lanes into the Shreveport market, which includes Alexandria, La. Ensler Field outside Alexandria is one of the staging areas for FEMA.
