FMCSA eases requirements for military vets looking to obtain CDL
Military personnel who drove commercial vehicles in the service looking to transition into the trucking industry will now have a full year to apply for a skills test waiver instead of just 90 days after they leave the service. Additionally, the rule allows states to accept applications from active-duty military members that are stationed in that state.

NTSB found in its investigation of a fatal 2015 crash that the trucker at fault had illegally used methamphetamine before the crash occurred. The drug use should have been detected in a pre-employment screening, NTSB says.

The trucking lobbyist’s stance comes despite its request to the DOT for such a rule, pointing to the DOT’s lack of a fully formed proposal as reason why.

FMCSA to allow pre-CDL truckers at CRST to drive in team operations
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said in its Federal Register notice that a learner’s permit holder with documentation that he or she passed the CDL skills test can drive a truck for CRST without a CDL holder in the front seat.

FMCSA updates regs for windshield-mounted safety devices
The devices covered in the amendment must be mounted no more than four inches below the upper edge or seven inches above the lower edge of the area swept by the windshield wipers, and must also be outside the driver’s sight lines to the road and highway signs and signals.
