CargoNet: Cargo thefts down in second quarter, values remain high
Cargo theft recording firm CargoNet received 150 cargo theft reports during the second quarter of 2019, a 14% decrease from the same period a year ago. The average loss value per cargo theft was $152,844 for an estimated total of $22.9 million during the quarter.

Per-mile rates on the spot market were mostly flat in July. Though June was an outlier, through the first seven months of the year, rates on the spot market were in a noticeable downward cycle, declining even through spring — a usual annual inflection point for per-mile spot rates.
