Euro team wins California-held ChampTruck races this weekend, ’88 Mike’ the runner-up (with photos)

In the second race weekend of the ChampTruck World Series’ inaugural season, Hungarian racer Kristzian Szabo won the points-earning race, with Nashville-based Mack technician Mike Morgan placing second and four-wheeler racer Corry Weller earning third.

Among the last additions to matte-black painted daycab was this wood-worked eagle bolted above the helmet, gun and boot on the custom fifth wheel cover by Hopewell Sheet Metal of Hagerstown, Md., which also did the deckplating work. (See the galleries below for more images.) The eagle is the work of a Marine Corps veteran and friend Timbrook knows from the local bowling alley. “He’s 75 years old, and I know him just as Pappy,” Timbrook says. “He called me up one day and said, ‘I have something for your truck for you,'” and that he’d be honored if Timbrook used it. “I said, ‘I sure will.'”
