Congress passes spending bill exempting livestock haulers from ELDs until October
Both chambers of Congress on Thursday passed a $1.3 trillion spending bill that allows livestock haulers to run without electronic logging devices through the end of September. The bill has now been sent to the White House for President Trump’s signature, who has threatened to veto the bill.

TRALA says its 90-day waiver isn’t sufficient to address the ELD issues that have arisen with short-term rentals. The group says when fleets rent trucks to meet short-term demands, the ELD platform a fleet uses is often times different from the ELD platform in a rental truck.

Livestock, ag haulers now have until June to comply with ELD mandate
Truckers hauling agricultural products and livestock have received further reprieve from compliance with the U.S. DOT’s electronic logging device. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced Tuesday that such haulers will have until June 18 to adopt an ELD. They can continue to run on paper logs in the meantime.

Continuing in its so-far-unfruitful appeal to lawmakers, courts and regulators to reevaluate the federal electronic logging device mandate, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association has asked the leaders of the House’s Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to hold a hearing on its concerns surrounding ELD implementation.
