Small spot market improvements occurring at typical seasonal rates low point
Seasonally, weāre in the month that is usually the low point for spot rates during the year. The national average van rate in February is the lowest since May 2019, when it was also $1.79 a mile. However, the line-haul average rate (minus a calculated average surcharge) at that time was $1.47, 4 cents lower than where we are now.

More than $18 million worth of meth and other narcotics were found in a load of broccoli at the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas. An Illinois-based carrier announced it will close a Wisconsin terminal, laying off 61 drivers. A driver was named a Highway Angel for helping prevent an accident.
