FMCSA grants waiver to help hurricane-displaced Puerto Ricans obtain CDLs
FMCSA has issued a 90-day waiver from proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residence and domicile requirements for Puerto Rican citizens relocating to the U.S. in the aftermath of hurricanes Irma and Maria. The agency is also seeking comments on a longer exemption with the same terms.

USPS trucker reportedly shot, killed on I-30 near downtown Dallas
According to the report, homicide detectives responded to a call about a shooting around 2:30 a.m. Monday. The driver of the truck, identified as Tony Mosby, reportedly died at the scene after being shot and crashing into a guardrail.

Georgia eyes trucks-only lanes on I-75 near Atlanta
The proposed lanes would allow trucks and other commercial vehicles to travel in barrier-separated lanes from four-wheel traffic. The preliminary proposal has the lanes going northbound only from approximately the I-75/I-475 interchange near Macon to the McDonough area just south of Atlanta.

Transmission issue prompts recall of nearly 2,000 Kenworth, Peterbilt tractors
Affected tractors are equipped with an automated Eaton UltraShift Plus or Eaton Advantage Transmission with right hand stalk shifter. In the affected trucks, the display on the instrument panel can indicate “N” when the shifter is set into “D” or “R,” causing the truck not to move.

Several states consider measures to block ELD mandate enforcement
The bills mostly cite concerns of small business truckers as the reasons to repeal the mandate or suspend its enforcement, as well as the potential for the mandate to drive up prices of goods for consumers. Legislators in South Dakota, Missouri, Tennessee and Idaho have introduced resolutions taking aim at the mandate.
