Small carriers/owner-ops land 40% of freight contracted to large carriers, report claims
Freight being subcontracted to smaller carriers from larger ones is not news to the industry. But LaneAxis says its research shows the practice is perhaps more prevalent than previously though, given the large share of freight — 42 percent of total bookings, says LaneAxis — pushed to smaller carriers and owner-operators by some of the country’s largest.

FMCSA’s report says that the number of trucks involved in fatal accidents decreased 5 percent in 2014. The only problem is a conflicting statistic: Injuries in truck-involved wrecks increased by 21 percent. I asked around for explanations.
